Susan Boyle came to international public attention when she appeared on Britain’s Got Talent last year and made her dreams come true by shocking audiences with her truly amazing voice as she performed ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from Les Miserables. More recently she made a very special guest appearance as part of Daniel O’Donnell’s concert at The Royal Theatre, Castlebar last Saturday night, July 24. Susan, who was on a private visit to Knock Shrine, received a total of four standing ovations during her surprise performance. Susan sang ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ and also joined Daniel O’Donnell in a duet of ‘Our Lady Of Knock’.

The man who is known as Ireland’s King of Country Music will take to the stage for a one night only dance at 9pm. The last time Big Tom was here the numbers that came out to see him were incredible, and there is no doubt that it will be the same again. “We know that demand for accommodation around Castlebar and neighbouring areas is going to be huge, even more so than last time, as Big Tom fans travel from all parts of Ireland and overseas,” said Pat Jennings of the Royal Theatre. “It is testament to his enduring appeal as a man of the people that he is still the king after all those years.”

Some of the best rising stars of song and dance will be showcased at a variety show style evening in the TF Royal Theatre on April 30. Five nationally and internationally acclaimed local performing arts companies have joined forces to stage the concert to help raise funds for Ballina’s new arts centre and theatre. The evening will include Irish dance, hip hop, traditional music, songs from the musicals, and swing performed by members of the Sylvan Kelly School of Dance, Aine Egan’s Danceworld, The All Star Academy under the direction of Lavinia Gilmartin, Michael Slater, and Patrick Lacken, The Bofield Céílí Band, and Cheryl Nolan and the Lambe Academy. All of the groups are based in Ballina but draw artists and students from throughout Mayo and south Sligo.
